Lorena Elizabeth Swecker Frey, age 93 years, a resident of Elkins and Fort Lauderdale, FL, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Mountain Memories where she had been a resident for the past two weeks and under the care of West Virginia Caring Hospice.

She was born May 31, 1928, the only child and daughter of the late Denzil Howard Swecker and Texie Edith Ware Swecker.

On August 22, 1954 at the First United Methodist Church in Elkins she was married to the late Dorsey James Frey who was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Frey of Elkins.

They had celebrated forty-six years of marriage.

Lorena attended the schools of Randolph County and graduated from Tygarts Valley High School with the Class of 1945 and graduated from West Virginia Business College on July 3, 1946.

Lorena was the first woman to serve as Deputy Clerk of Randolph County Court for twenty-four years.

In November 1972, she began her second career in the court system with the U.S. District Court of Northern West Virginia as a U. S. Deputy Clerk in the court of the Federal District Judge Robert E. Maxwell, retiring in 1998 after twenty-four years to spend six months with her husband Dorsey in their home in Elkins and six months in their condo in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

She was a princess in the Mountain State Forest Festival in 1953 and was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority that she loved and enjoyed for several years.

Lorena was the last surviving member of her immediate family and leaves behind several special friends from Elkins, Fort Lauderdale, Canada and several other countries.

Lorena will be missed by all who knew her and was blessed to call her their friend.

Friends may call from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Julie Davis officiating, Interment will follow in the Elkins Memorial Gardens on the Country Club Road.

The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Lorena Elizabeth Frey.
