MARGARET M. HAMMACK Margaret Mary Hammack, 87, of Philippi, passed away on Sunday, July 15, in the Broaddus Hospital, following an extended illness. She was born December 17, 1924, at Galloway, Barbour County, a daughter of the late Michael Malahavic (McKar) and the late Anna Helen (Malunak) Malahavic (McKar). On October 10, 1948, she was married to Van John Hammack (Sr.), who preceded her in death on February 14, 1984. Surviving are three daughters, Anna Lou Stemple and husband, “Danny”, Philippi, Deborah Sue Bishop and husband, Paul, Ridgecrest, Calif., and Sally Marie Hammack, with whom she made her home; one son, Van John Hammack Jr., San Antonio, Tex.; two granddaughters, Stephanie Stemple, Clarksburg, Laura Morrison and husband, Josh, Philippi; one great grandson, Dayton Morrison, Philippi; two nephews, Edward Trojan, Haddenfield, N.J., James Trojan, Erie, Penn., and her extended family, her loving care givers, Zvezdana Vlasic, Vicky Malcolm, Rose Daugherty, Mary Carder and Connie Brown. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Michael Ray Hammack and an infant son and by one sister, Katherine Trojan. Mrs. Hammack was a 1943 graduate of Philippi High School. She had been employed as assistant manager of Cassity’s Grocery in Brownton and had worked in a defense plant during World War II. She was a member of the St. Elizabeth Roman Catholic Church, the St. Elizabeth Altar and Rosary Society and Philippi Chapter #41, O.E.S. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, July 19, from the St. Elizabeth roman Catholic Church. The Rev. Fr. Jim O’Connor will officiate and interment will follow in the Cross Roads Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 until 9:00 P.M. on Wednesday and from 9:00 until 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, a rosary will be offered at 7:30 P.M. on Wednesday in the funeral home chapel. The Stemple & Forman Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
