MARGIE ALICE CAVALIER THOMPSON, age 85 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at Valentine’s Personal Care Home at Elkins, WV.
She was born Friday, May 1, 1925 over the old Family Drug Store in downtown Elkins, WV. She was a daughter of the late Claude C. Cavalier and Russie Barlow Cavalier. On July 31, 1945 at Elkins, WV she was married to Edmund A. “Eddie” Thompson, who preceded her in death, April 4, 1998. Surviving are one daughter, Margaret Ann Chiasson and husband Robert, of Washington, D.C., and one grandson, Daric Alexander Foster, of Cincinnati, OH.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Preceding her in death was her only sister, Louise Cavalier Standel.
She attended the schools of Randolph and Harrison Counties. During World War II, she moved to Akron, OH to join the war effort on the home front. She became an inspector of the tail sections of the B-32 Bomber. She was a noted portrait painter, taught ceramics at adult education classes at Elkins High School and was a former secretary for the Third Ward School. She was a member of the John Hart Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, the Randolph Chapter # 74, Order of the Eastern Star and the First Church of Christ on Worth Avenue, Elkins.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Friday, May 28, 2010 from 1 to 2 PM, with services following immediately. Kent Price, pastor of the First Christian Church on the Beverly Road will officiate and interment will follow at the Beverly Cemetery at Beverly, WV. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for MARGIE ALICE CAVALIER THOMPSON.
