Mary Alice Mace 1908-2002 Obituary
Mary Alice Mace, 94, a lifelong resident of Norton and a resident of Colonial Place for the past two weeks, passed away Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at 5:10 p.m. in Davis Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient for the past two weeks. She had been in failing health for the past six weeks.
She was born March 27, 1908, in Leebell, a daughter of the late French Alonzo and Heston Ann Rosencrance Pingly.
On Oct. 13, 1928, she was united in marriage to Paul W. Mace, who preceded her in death on March 25, 1986.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Clara Belle) Sainato of Norton, Mrs. Alice Holbert of Norton, and Mrs. Ben (Deloris) Hamrick; two sisters, Virginia Bennett of Norton, and Patty Stifler of Ohio; and one brother, Homer Pingly of South Carolina.
Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her parents were one daughter, Lucille Kyle; one son, Paul Alonzo Mace; and 10 brothers, Troy, Dave, Clifford, Dorsey, Enoch, Harvey, Wilson, Noah, Junior and Bob.
She was a wonderful homemaker and an avid gardener. She loved to sew and make quilts. She also loved to put jigsaw puzzles together, glue them and make pictures out of them.
She was a Protestant by faith.
Friends were received Tuesday at F.E. Runner Funeral Home. Funeral services were conducted from the Runner Chapel today at 1 p.m. The Rev. Frank Long, pastor of Mill Creek Memorial Mission Church, and the Rev. Ralph Summerfield, pastor of the Norton Community Church, officiated and interment followed in Elkins Memorial Gardens in Elkins. The F.E. Runner Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Mary Alice Mace.
