Mary Elizabeth Barkley Bender 1936-2016 Obituary
Mary Elizabeth Barkley Bender, 80, a resident of Elkins, passed from this life Sunday, June 5, 2016 at Nella’s Incorporated in Elkins.
Mary was born Sunday, March 15, 1936 in Mingo, a daughter of the late Sam Barkley and Sarah Louk Barkley.
She was married to Kenneth Bender who preceded her in death on October 1, 2001.
Left to cherish Mary’s memory are four children, Sandra Moyers and husband Ronald of Hightown, VA, Bobbie Barkley of Elkins, Roger Barkley and wife Lisa K. of Maurertown, VA and Shirley Johnson and companion Doug Blower of Wilmington, NC, two brothers, Donald Barkley and wife Kathy of Queensbury, NY and Clyde Barkley and wife Sandy of IL, eleven grandchildren and several grand and great grandchildren.
Preceding Mary in death besides her parents were six siblings, Junior, Bill, Lawrence, Jim, Barbara and Sharon.
Mary attended the schools of Randolph County and had been employed as a cook at Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center for twenty years.
Mary loved to play Bingo, cards and tend to her garden.
She was also known to have a love / hate relationship with camping.
Visitation will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home Thursday from 5P-7P. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home Friday, June 10, 2016 at 11A.
Pastor A.H. Belt will officiate and interment will follow in Mingo Cemetery.
