Mary Ruth Gear, 78, of Huttonsville, died at 4:50 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, in Davis Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Gear was born Nov. 27, 1923, in Elkins, a daughter of the late Hyder and Belva Godwin Phillips.
On July 5, 1942, she married James W. Gear, who survives in Huttonsville.
Also surviving are a daughter, Margaret Jean Steinruck, Springs Hill, Fla.; two sons, Charles Glenn Gear and wife, Christine, Elkins, and Philip Lane Gear and wife, Cynthia, Mill Creek; two sisters, Roxie Workman, Huber Heights, Ohio, and Maxine Phillips Gum, Bridgeport; a sister-in-law, Vicky Phillips, Clarksburg; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Clair, Hugh, Lane, Raymond and Hyder Glenn Phillips.
Mrs. Gear was a homemaker. She was a member of Valley Chapel United Methodist Church at Becky’s Creek. She was an active member of Becky’s Creek Womens’ Circle and a former member of Huttonsville/mill Creek Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
Funeral Arrangements: Friends may call at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. On Wednesday, she will be moved to Valley Chapel United Methodist Church at Becky’s Creek, where friends may call from noon until 1 p.m., the funeral hour, with the Rev. Verl Simmons officiating. Interment will follow in Brick Church Cemetery near Huttonsville.
