Melodee Kay White 1955-2021 Obituary
Melodee Kay White, of Elkins, West Virginia, went to be with the Lord in the early morning of Monday, November 1, 2021, at The Madison Center, in Morgantown, West Virginia, after an extended battle with cancer. She was 66 years old.
Melodee was a daughter of the late Corder Phillips, Jr. and Opal Myers Phillips, of Montrose, WV, and the fourth of five children. Born on May 12, 1955, she was an Elkins, West Virginia native and a 1973 graduate of Elkins High School. The Phillips family was well known in the area; they owned and operated Clinton’s Shoes in downtown Elkins for many years, where Melodee had her first job. She attended West Virginia University briefly as well. She married John Wesley White, of Whitmer, WV, in 1976.
Melodee and John moved to the Baltimore, Maryland area in 1980 and raised their family there. Melodee worked in sales and food service, where she had numerous high-profile clients, including the Baltimore Orioles and the White House. She loved spending free time at the baseball park, watching her children compete in various athletics, or at her church. The family was a member of the First Christian Church.
Over the years, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina became a favorite vacation destination where her family held numerous reunions. She and her family enjoyed the beach, dining out, and playing board and card games. When Melodee wasn’t spending time with her family, you found her reading books and listening to music. She was a lover of animals, especially the family’s long line of golden retrievers.
In 1998, Melodee and John moved back to the Elkins area, and she spent several years working as a Unit Secretary at Davis Medical Center. The family was also an active member of the Elkins First Church of Christ.
Melodee was preceded in death by her husband John in 2003, after his own battle with cancer. Melodee was also preceded in death by her parents and her older sister Judith Helmick. She is survived by her two sons, John Wesley White III, and Staff Sergeant Mason Cereo (and wife Bethany), as well as her brothers Michael, Rodney, and Bradley Phillips, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial of life and fellowship time will be held at a later date. Should friends and family desire, in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Randolph County Humane Society, P. O. Box 785, Elkins, WV 26241
