NANCY LOU MILLER 1936-2010 Obituary
NANCY LOU MILLER, age 73 years, a lifelong resident of Parsons, WV, departed this life peacefully on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at Montgomery Hospice in Rockville, MD.
She was born Sunday, June 14, 1936 at Parsons, WV, a daughter of the late Ralph and Ruth DeVilder Miller.
Surviving are two sisters, Roeda Miller of Silver Spring, Md. and Becky Miller of Kinston, NC; a “special sister” Shorty Hill of Kinston, NC. She is also survived by several cousins and aunts.
Nancy was a graduate of Parsons High School with the Class of 1954. She was an employee of the former Tucker County Hospital, the former Cunningham’s 5 & 10 Store, the former Parsons News and Novelty, the former Dorman Mills and State Farm Insurance of Parsons. She was a member of the Parsons Chapter No. 91 Order of the Eastern Star for fifty five years. She dearly loved the O.E.S. and served as Worthy Matron on several occasions and chaired most, if not all, of the other offices, more than once. Served in other offices of the Chapter at least once and until 2005, served as Secretary of the Chapter for many years. She also served as Deputy Instructor for District 9. Nancy was appointed to serve as Grand Ada of the Grand Chapter of West Virginia in 1981-1982. Fulfilled her duties with dignity and grace as Grand Representative to Idaho from 1990 to 1992 and Grand Representative to Michigan from 2004 to 2006. Until the time of her death, she and her sister Roeda traveled widely throughout the State visiting the local Chapters during Grand Visitations. She enjoyed crafts, particularly working with plastic canvas. Nancy was a Methodist by faith.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Monday from 4 to 7 PM. On Monday evening at 6:30 PM, there will be a ritualistic Order of the Eastern Star service conducted by the Parsons Chapter No. 91. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at 11:30 AM. The Reverend John Morrison will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons.
