NELL ELAINE ROSE TEKEL 1931-2011 Obituary
NELL ELAINE ROSE TEKEL, age 80 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life Monday, April 11, 2011 at the Select Specialty Hospital of Saint Francis Hospital at Charleston, WV.
Death was attributed to complications from injuries sustained in a house fire.
She was born Sunday, April 5, 1931 at Appalachia, VA a daughter of the late James Rose and Hattie Elizabeth Johnson Rose.
On June 25, 1960 at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Big Stone Gap, VA she was married to Joe E. Tekel, who survives.
They had celebrated fifty-one years of marriage. Also surviving are one daughter, Paula R. Grigsby and husband Bruce B. Grigsby; Wellston, OH; two grandchildren, Makala R. and Tobias E. J. Grigsby; one brother, Joe W. Rose and wife Marglo, Big Stone Gap, VA; two nieces, Trina Rose, and Sarah Jo Osborne, all of Big Stone Gap, VA; one nephew, David Rose, VA; one sister in law, Jane Johns and husband Steve, Carson City, NV; one niece, Sylvia Hottinger and husband Robert, Fisherville, VA; and three nephews, Joe Johns, Fairbanks, AK; Paul Johns, Sparks, NV; and Ronald Johns, Carson City, NV.
Preceding her in death is one brother, James Edward Rose.
Nell was a graduate of Radford College in Radford, VA and had a full, rewarding career in the teaching profession.
She first taught business and English at Pound High School in VA followed by assignments at East Stone Gap, VA High School and Powell Valley High School in VA.
She also taught at Petersburg WV High School, the Elkins Middle School and Elkins High School and Vocational Technical Center.
She truly loved her profession and inspired many students.
She was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority in Elkins.
She loved reading, gardening and dancing as well as spending time with her grandchildren and family.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 6 to 8 PM, Friday.
The casket will remain closed.
Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel, Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 2 PM.
The Rev. Jim Murphy will officiate and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, WV.
