Nellie Rosena Layton, 88, of Petersburg, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, in Grant Memorial Hospital
Mrs. Layton was born April 21, 1913, in Landes, a daughter of the late Wade Hamilton Kesner and Anna Florence Whetzel Kesner.
She married George Emory Layton, who preceded her in death on March 29, 1990.
Surviving are a daughter, Georgia L. Mahmoud, Alexandria, Va.; two stepdaughters, Burnell Hiser, Baltimore, Md., and Eleanor Hinkle, Grant County Nursing Home, Petersburg; two sons, Paul J. Layton, Goldsboro, N.C., and Emory J. Layton, Springfield, Va.; two stepsons, Vernon Layton, Petersburg, and Stanley Layton, Springfield, Va.; a brother, Raymond Kesner, Dorcas; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, David Allen Layton; a stepson, Virgil Broke Layton; a stepgrandson, Jerome Layton; two sisters, Delphia Judy and Evelyn Thorne; and five brothers, infant Glenn Kesner, Walter H. Kesner and Cletus Kesner, Fred H. Kesner and Ernest Q. Kesner.
Mrs. Layton was a member of North Mill Creek Baptist Church in Dorcas.
