NORA GRACE HARPER YOKUM, age 87 years, a resident of Harman, WV departed this life Friday morning, November 12, 2010 at the Hospice Care Regional Inpatient Center in Elkins, WV.
She was born Friday, October 26, 1923 at Harman, WV a daughter of the late Theodore “Ted” Harper and Ruby Armstrong Harper. On July 19, 1941 at Oakland, MD she was married to Troy Coolidge Yokum, who survives at Elkins. Also surviving are four sons, Robert Dennis Yokum and wife Janice, Bruceton Mills; Theodore McClure Yokum and fiancée Judy, Harman; Troy Michael Yokum and wife Cynthia, Seneca Rocks; John Wade Yokum and wife Renee, Elkins; one sister, Pheba Jean Montoney, Harman; nine grandchildren, Randy, Rick, Dennis, Jamey, Teresa, Kevin, Amanda, Shane and Nicole; and eleven great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death is one grandson, Tracey.
She was a graduate of Harman High School and Davis & Elkins College with the Class of 1958, with a degree in elementary education. She had taught at Whitmer and the Harman Elementary School, retiring in 1988 with thirty years of service. She was a member of the Harman Church of the Brethren and had taught at Harperton Sunday school. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed flowers and sewing and loved her family.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 8 PM, Monday. On Tuesday, November 16, 2010 Mrs. Yokum will be moved to the Harman Church of the Brethren where friends may call from 1 to 2 PM, the funeral hour. Pastor John R. Moyers will officiate and interment will follow at the Jacob C. Harper Cemetery at Harman, WV.
