Norma Jean White Clark, 95, a resident of Elkins, West Virginia, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, February 3, 2022 at Davis Medical Center in Elkins. She was born May 2, 1926 in Burnsville, WV the daughter of the late Dr. Minor Ezekiel and Rosadale Madana (Dana Dale) Barbarow White. June 1, 1947, in Webster Springs, WV she was married to Lester A. Clark who preceded her in death. Surviving are one son, John Clark and wife Sharon of Plano, TX, and two daughters, Vicki Fisher and husband Mike, and Barbara Goff of Elkins. Six grandchildren, Jonathan Langevin, Erin Golden, Clark Evans, Elliott Evans, Andrew Clark, and Allison Clark, and four great grandchildren, Matthew and William Langevin and Jacob and Leland Golden. Preceding her in death was one brother, Willard D. White, one sister, Mildred McClung, one son-in-law, Donald Goff, and one great-granddaughter, Isabelle Madana Golden. She was a graduate of Webster Springs High School with the class of 1943. While in high school she was the head majorette for the marching band for three years. At age 16 she started working as a switchboard operator and also operated the record player for the local rolling skating rink. After high school she worked at White Chevrolet in Webster Springs, then at the Pentagon for 2 years as a File Clerk. During WWII she operated a teletype machine for Western Union. She said she would never forget having to deliver those telegrams to the families. After other employment in Lewisburg and Elkins, she began working for C. Vernon Lowther at his State Farm Office. She retired from State Farm in 1996 after working for Vernon for 29 years. She enjoyed her family and friends. She was a member of Woodford Memorial United Methodist church for 61 years where she was active in the United Methodist Women, Sunday School, Bible School, and the choir. Her love for music began at an early age and was passed down to her family which was a blessing to her when she was able to praise the Lord in song with them. She played the guitar, mandolin, fiddle, banjo, dobro, dulcimer, harmonica, and piano. A favorite hobby that she enjoyed was cake decorating. Her specialty cakes brought a smile to many faces over the years. In 1989 and 1992 she placed at the Forest Festival Cake decorating show for her bird cage cake made with iced spaghetti and best in show for her basket weave cake. She was always shocked at the high price her cakes would bring at the auction afterwards. She decorated her last wedding cake in May 2008 at the age of 82. She enjoyed traveling with trips to New York City, London, Hawaii, and Stonehenge, but really enjoyed her trips up Little Cove in Gilmer County with her Barbarow cousins whose grandfather came to America from Geneva, Italy, or to the White Family reunion where they celebrated being the descendants of Peregrine White who was the first English child born on the Mayflower at Plymouth Rock on November 20, 1620.
