Patricia Lynn Gillespie Fletcher 1943-2020 Obituary
Patricia Lynn Gillespie Fletcher, age 76 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life Saturday morning, February 22, 2020 at her home. She had been in declining health, although death was unexpected.
She was born Wednesday, September 22, 1943 at Buckhannon, WV a daughter of the late Thurman Lynn Gillespie and Mabel Margaret Evans Gillespie.
She was twice married. First, on December 16, 1961 at the First United Methodist Church at Elkins, WV, she was married to Charles Hughes Fletcher, who preceded her in death February 19, 2002.
Second, on December 6, 2009 at Elkins, WV to Glenn R. Goodwin, who survives.
Also surviving are her children, Kelly Lynn Fletcher Shuppe and husband Joseph of Elkins, Charles Michael “Mike” Fletcher of Erie, PA and wife Kellie of Parkersburg, WV, Leigh Margaret Fletcher of Elkins; two brothers, James Edward Nixon of Canton, OH, Michael Stewart “Mike” Gillespie and wife Pam Carpenter Gillespie of Buckhannon; and three grandsons, Reece and Oliver Fletcher, both of Parkersburg and Kyle Schumacher of Connecticut.
Patricia was a graduate of Buckhannon–Upshur High School with the Class of 1961, where she was proud to be a Majorette in the BUHS Marching Band. She completed beauty school at State College, PA with the Class of 1962 and was a beautician for many years prior to becoming a homemaker.
She was a very busy mother, and was dedicated to making sure all her family’s needs were always met.
Throughout the lives of her children, she enjoyed being involved with and watching them participate in their many, many activities. When they were young it was many years with the YMCA swim team.
Later, through Junior High and High School, it was the band and basketball.
She enjoyed the many trips to Deep Creek Lake, the ski slopes at both Canaan Valley and Snowshoe and simply enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a phenomenal cook and was wonderful at putting together family dinners.
She enjoyed flying, and in the 1970’s she learned to fly and was thrilled to solo.
She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and the Women’s Auxiliary. She was an avid reader and history enthusiast, but most of all she loved reading the bible.
