Paul L Zickefoose 1944-2012 Obituary
Mr. Paul L. Zickefoose, age 68 years, a resident of Elkins, passed away Friday morning, October 19, 2012 in the Hospice Care Regional Inpatient Unit.
He was born June 5, 1944 at Queens, WV, a son of the late Sampson Law and Virgie Sloan Zickefoose.
He was married to Barbara Lewis Zickefoose who survives in Elkins. Surviving are three brothers: David (Lois) Zickefoose, Claysville PA, Amal (Shirley) Zickefoose, Buckhannon , Arthur (Kyoko) Zickefoose, Virginia Beach, VA, two sisters: Zita Lee of Buckhannon, Donna (Alan) Boone of Berea, OH and Billie Zickefoose of Vermillion, OH. Preceding him in death were one son, Dr. Dennis Paul Zickefoose; brothers: Joseph, Jerry “Dick”, Rex and infant Albert Zickefoose; father-in-law Samuel Lewis and brother-in-law Keith Lee.
Paul served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War where he was awarded the Bronze Service Star and the Defense Service Medal.
Mr. Zickefoose worked 32 years serving the families of Randolph County as an insurance agent for Equitable Life Insurance (later called American General LIC) where he was awarded numerous sales awards.
He was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church, National Rifle Assoc., AARP, and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
An avid outdoorsman, Paul enjoyed trips and travel with Eddie Jr. Hinkle and Dr. Carl Shepp to US hunting destinations.
He looked forward to bird hunting with “Britt” in Michigan and Wisconsin as well as trophy antelope and elk trips to Colorado and Montana.
Other excursions included Mississippi grouse/quail hunts with PJ’s dental buddies and Canadian salmon and Erie Lake fishing with his nephew Sonny.
Paul relished spending time with friends and family at the Queens cabin.
A pleasant escape, music and hunting created special memories with precious friends and family.
Paul’s bucket list was extensive and required the skills of many; including brother Sam Lewis who made the dump truck, excavator, bull dozing and bridge/cabin building projects possible.
A memorial service will be held Saturday October 27th, 12:00 noon at the Lanham Cemetery in Queens.
At 1:00 pm lunch, provided by Tallmansville CEOs along with stories, sharing, and celebrating Paul will be held at the Tallmansville Fire Hall.
The family suggests contributions be made to the Dr. Dennis Paul “PJ” Zickefoose DDS Memorial Scholarship, Robert C. Byrd Health Science Center/school of Dentistry, PO Box 9400, Morgantown, WV 26506-9400 in memory of Paul.
