Phillip Morton Elza, 91, a resident of Alpena, departed this life at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2002 at his home. He had been in declining health for the past year, although death was unexpected.
He was born Thursday, March 9, 1911, at Job, a son of the late George Robert Elza and Dollena Flubarger Elza.
On July 20, 1935, he was married to the former Lillie Thompson, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Troy Elza, Kenneth Elza and Herald Elza, all of Bowden; two daughters, Rutholene Elza Nelson, Dry Fork, and Mildred Elza, Bowden; two sisters, eight grandchildren, Kathy Kerns, Linda Teter, Donald Nelson, Clifford Elza, Connie Rowe, Michael Elza, Patrick Elza and Julie Poling; and three great-grandchildren, Matt Elza, Brennan Elza and Kali Elza.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Elza; and one sister, Margie Thompson.
Mr. Elza was a timberman, sawmill worker and a farmer.
Cremation services were provided by Lohr-barb-vance Funeral Home. Friends will be received at Lohr-barb-vance Funeral Home Saturday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., at which time a memorial service will be held with the Rev. Jonas Johnson Jr. officiating.
