Phyllis Jean Pingley, age 89 years, a resident of the Hazelwood Community, departed this life February 25, 2022 at The Good Samaritan Center in Belington, WV.
She was born November 29, 1932 at Hazelwood, a daughter of the late Jesse J. and Pattie Weese Rhodes. On November 4, 1967, at Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church in Elkins, she was united in marriage to Owen Talbott Pingley who preceded her in death January 15, 2010.
Phyllis is survived by her sister, Helen R. Stalnaker of Elkins; four nieces, Jennifer Tschettes, Nancy Fouts, Jo Ellen Toothman and Brenda Alexander and one nephew Waldo Abbott, III.
Phyllis was a graduate of Elkins High School and St. Mary’s School of Nursing In Clarksburg, WV.
She worked at Weirton General Hospital, Davis Memorial Hospital, Ohio State University Hospital and the Jackson County Health Department in Ripley, WV.
While at Ripley, she was involved in the start of many new programs and clinics at the health department including the Home Health Program.
She served as the Community Representative for West Central Community Action Program. While living in Columbus, OH she worked with the Girl Scout Brownie Troop and the local theater productions.
Phyllis enjoyed church activities, bowling and square dancing. She and her husband returned to Elkins in 1985.
She was a member and Elder of the Beverly Presbyterian Church and was named an Honorary Member of the Beverly Presbyterian Women’s Group. Phyllis was a very kind and caring person who was always taking care of God’s little animal creatures.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at the Elkins Memorial Gardens with Rev. Richard Cardot officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to the Beverly Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 206, Beverly, WV 26253 in memory of Phyllis.
The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Phyllis Jean Pingley.
