Quentin Preston Bennet Obituary 1925-2013
Quentin Preston Bennett, 87, of Riverton, formerly of Bridgeport, went home to Heaven Jan. 7, 2013.
He was born April 25, 1925, at Brood, near Brushy Run, the son of Preston Bennett and Zettie Kisamore Bennett.
He was an infantryman during World War II in Patton’s 4th Armored Division and was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge. His military awards include the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He graduated from Circleville High School in 1948 and West Virginia University in 1952, the first in his family to graduate from college.
He married Joy Cooper Bennett of Dry Fork, in 1954, and raised three sons, Bradley, Jeffrey and Preston.
He served with distinction in the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a conservationist his entire career, helping West Virginia farmers work their land more efficiently.
After the death of his first wife, Joy, in 1993, Quentin married Roberta Harper Weese of Riverton in 1999 and was adopted by her loving family. He was a loving father and husband. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Quentin was a faithful follower of Christ since his conversion after returning from the war and has been a faithful member of local churches his entire life, most recently at Valley Chapel United Methodist in Riverton. He has served as a Sunday school teacher to children and adults and as a church trustee. He trusted in Christ alone for his salvation.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Bennett is survived by three sons, Bradley Quentin Bennett and wife, Debbie, of Clarksburg, Jeffrey Dixon Bennett and wife, Janie, of Pueblo West, Colo., and Dr. T. Preston Bennett and wife, Gabriela, of Arlington, Va.; a stepdaughter, Shirley Sherman and husband, John, of Petersburg,; two stepsons, Paul Allen Weese and wife, Lois, of Lost Creek and Terry Lee Weese and wife, Dorinda, of Petersburg; a brother, Dice Bennett and wife, Betty, of Parsons; eight grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; a great-grandson, Braxton; and nine stepgreat-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and his first wife, Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by three brothers, Byron Lambert, Joe Bennett and Marshall Bennett; and five sisters, Emma Ray, Nancy Golden, Mary Wamless, Grace Price and Vergie Lahman.
Mr. Bennett’s family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. The Rev. Fred Bennett and the Rev. James Sims will officiate funeral services Thursday, Jan. 10, at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in North Fork Memorial Cemetery at Riverton with military honors conducted by Pendleton County Veterans Honor Guard.
