Rachel Louise Cunningham Barkley 1918-2021 Obituary
Rachel Louise Cunningham Barkley, age 102 years, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, May 22, 2021 at Nella’s Nursing Home where she had been a resident since August 2010.
The family would like to thank Nella’s Nursing Home for the excellent care Rachel received.
She was born December 23, 1918 at Whitmer, the oldest daughter of the late John and Ida Belle Phillips Cunningham.
On February 1, 1952 at Elkins, she was married to Mack Barkley who preceded her in death April 18, 1997.
Also preceding her in death, in addition to her parents and husband was her oldest son, David Cunningham; granddaughter, Shelly Barkley; two sisters, Louella Cunningham and Mary (Newton) Tingler; six brothers, Louis (Wanda) Cunningham, Roy (Ann) Cunningham, Leonard Cunningham, Dale (Virginia) Cunningham, Sampson Cunningham, Lincoln (Betty) Cunningham; sister-in-law, Betty Jo Cunningham; and special friend, Dick Harr.
She is survived by one son, Bill Barkley; two sisters, Nancy (Paul) Bennett, Arlene (Jim) Tingler; two brothers, Wade Cunningham and John (Carolyn) Cunningham: daughter-in-law, Mary Cunningham.
Two step-sons, Bob (Wanda) Barkley and John (Kathy) Barkley; two granddaughters, Cathy (Monty) Kalar, Sandra (Ron) Daniels; two grandson, Weylin Barkley and Brett Warner.
Also surviving are seven step-grandchildren; several great step-grandchildren; great-great step-grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Louise and Bernice Cunningham.
Several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Barkley was a homemaker and a wonderful cook.
She always had something to eat when any of her family stopped by to visit.
She was a member of the Whitmer United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Barkley’s request for cremation will be honored and her cremains will be buried beside her husband at Laurel Hill Cemeteryat Whitmer at a later date.
The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Whitmer United Methodist Church, C/O Pam White, P. O. Box 227, Whitmer, WV 26296 in memory of Rachel.
