Retha Florence Currence George 1930-2017 Obituary
Retha Florence Currence George, 87, a former resident of Randolph County and a resident of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, passed away Friday, Dec. 8, 2017, at her residence.
She was born Feb. 11, 1930 at Mill Creek, a daughter of the late Peter Jennings and Adie Mae Arbogast Currence.
On Dec. 4, 1948, at Highland Park, she was married to Calvin Junior George, who survives in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Also surviving are three sons, David George of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Paul George, Mechanicsburg, Ohio, and Stephen George, Murfreesboro, Tennessee; five daughters, Mary McCartney, Whitley City, Kentucky, Martha Pinkston, Fayetteville, North Carolina, Rebecca Nelson, Sheridan, Indiana, Eunice Wallace, Hixson, Tennessee, and Ester Black, Sheridan, Indiana; three brothers, Lodonald Currence, Beverly, Truman Currence, Elkins, and Henry Currence, Beverly; two sisters, Oneta Neighbors, Gore, Virginia, and Judy Herron, Beverly; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were one son, John George; and four sisters, Luella Collins, Ruth Fortney, Louise Iseli and Orvie Ramsey.
Mrs. George was a housewife and attended the Grace Chapel of Somerset, Kentucky.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday from the funeral home chapel with Rev. David George and Rev. Wallace Thornton officiating. Interment will follow in the Hilltop Cemetery near Beverly.
