Richard Elza Collins Obituary 1926-2013
Richard Elza Collins, 86, a resident of Elkins, departed this life Monday evening, Jan. 21, 2013, in Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center in Elkins.
He was born Wednesday, June 23, 1926, at Valley Bend, a son of the late Harvey and Jessie Johnson Collins.
On Aug. 14, 1948, in Randolph County, he was married to the former Hazel Isabelle Lambert, who preceded him in death March 23, 2008. They had celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Surviving are three sons; Steven Richard Collins and wife, Joy, of Belington, Ronnie Harold Collins and wife, Cathy, of Beverly and Mikel Harvey Collins and wife, Nancy, of Elkins; three daughters, Lana Isabell Phillips of Elkins, Linda Darlene Feaster and husband, Stephen, of Huntington and Sandra Darnell Schoonover and husband, Homer, of Elkins; one brother, Bruce Collins of Elkins; one sister, Opal Collins Lambert of Dailey; 16 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Arch, Neal, William and Lawrence Collins and Robert Swiger; four sisters, Bernice Arbogast, Alta Coffee, Zalia Swiger and Winnie Collins; and four grandchildren.
He attended the schools of Randolph County and had worked for the city of Elkins as a truck driver from which he retired. He was a Baptist by faith.
The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25. Friday, at 1:30 p.m., a funeral service will be conducted with Pastor Bryan Headley officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery at East Dailey.
