Richard Lee “Dick” Belt, 74, a resident of Route 1, Beverly, the Files Creek Road, passed away at 9:05 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2002, in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
He was born Oct. 31, 1927, at Fairmont, a son of the late Oliver and Estella Arnold Belt.
He is survived by one son, Jack Belt and wife, Cathy, Fairmont. A grandson, Jack and great-grandchildren, Timothy and Sharon, all of Maryland. He leaves a very devoted fiance of 14 years, Charlene Dolly and family, Robin, Tammy, Meghan and Allison Dolly; two brothers, Oliver J. Belt, Fairmont, and Jim Belt of Morgantown; three sisters, Margaret Evans, Weirton, Ethel Brennan, Shinnston, and Barbara Mundell of Fairmont; several nieces and nephews.
Also preceding him in death was one brother, Charles.
Mr. Belt was a veteran of the U.S Navy serving during World War II. He was employed by the Maryland National Park and Planning Commission serving as a member of the Park Police in Prince George County Maryland for 25 years. He attained the rank of major prior to his retirement. He was active in the Rotary Club of Elkins and Ducks Unlimited and attended the Woodford Memorial Methodist Church.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Daniel Bryan officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. State Memorial Gardens near Gilman.
