Richard William Holcomb, age 73 years, a resident of Bowden, WV departed this life Thursday evening, February 4, 2021 at the Charleston Area Medical Center Memorial Division at Charleston, WV surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Saturday, June 21, 1947 at Oak Hill, WV a son of the late Clyde Bradford Holcomb and Frances Kesler Holcomb Holliday, who survives at Bowden. Also surviving is one brother, Michael Eugene Holcomb and wife Katherine of North Haven, CT; six nieces and nephews, Kimberly Reese and husband Jason, Scott Holcomb and wife Kathleen, Natalie Sterbenz and husband Gregor, Jennifer Doll and husband Rick, Marlena Pacapelli and companion Eric Clark, James Crichfield; fifteen great nieces and nephews; and three great great nieces.
Preceding him in death are his step father, Master Sergeant James Delbert “Doc” Holliday; and twin sisters, Linda Kaye Holliday, and Brenda Holliday Bray.
He was a graduate of West Haven High School with the Class of 1965, he attended University of Connecticut for two years, and then was drafted into the U. S. Army where he did a tour of duty in Vietnam. He was a former employee of the U. S. Postal Service at Connecticut and worked for the DHHR in Charleston, with twenty plus years of service, retiring on October 31, 2013. He was a member of the Saint Brendan Catholic Church. He loved mowing, yard work and gardening. He was meticulous about his yardwork. He spent a lot of time doing family genealogy. He was a member of the H. W. Daniel’s Post # 29, American Legion and the Tygart’s Valley Post # 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 4 to 6 PM, Monday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home, Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at 10 AM. Pastor Ann Fretwell and the Rev. Mr. Raymond G. Godwin will officiate and interment will follow at the Jeanette Cemetery at Lookout, WV at 2:00 PM.
