Robert “Bob” Kincaid Nelson, 92, a resident of Elkins, passed from this life Sunday, January 24, 2021, at his residence and under the care of Mountain Hospice.
Bob was born Sunday January 29, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Clarence E. Nelson and Anne J. Kincaid. On July 9, 1955, he married the former Janice M. Schenck who survives at home.
Also left to cherish his memory are two children, David Nelson and his wife Margy of Elkins, and Douglas Nelson and his wife Angie of Durham, North Carolina, grandchildren Cheryl DeWitt and Dustin Bruley, great-grandchildren Daniel DeWitt and Bryan Bruley, close niece, Cherrie Johnson, and several other nieces and nephews.
Bob graduated from Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn, NY and received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Vermont. He was a member of the Theta-chia Fraternity. Bob proudly served his country with the United States Army during the WWII era where he received the WWII Victory Medal and the Army Occupation Medal. Bob worked as a Pharmaceutical salesman with Bristol Myers Squibb for more than twenty-five years. He was a volunteer first responder at the Connestee Fire Rescue in Brevard, NC for more than seventeen years and volunteered in the pharmacies of Transylvania Regional Hospital in Brevard, NC, and St. Luke’s Hospital in Columbus, NC. Bob enjoyed fishing, bowling, and photography. He was a member of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Bob’s request for cremation was honored. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home Tuesday, February 2, 2021, from 1 pm until 2 pm, the funeral hour. Rev. Dr. Peter Vial will officiate. Then military honors will be conducted by members of HW Daniels Post #29, American Legion, Tygart Valley Post #3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the WV Honor Guard. The family suggest that memorial contributions be made in Bob’s name to the Connestee Fire Rescue, 400 E. Fork Rd. Brevard, NC 28712 or the fire department of your choice.
