Robert Edward Farris, 84, of the Barbour County Good Samaritan Center in Belington and formerly of Junior, died at 5:05 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, in Davis Memorial Hospital. He had been in failing health for quite sometime.
Mr. Farris was born Sept. 15, 1917, in Junior, a son of the late Elza and Elsie Bibey Farris.
He was twice married. First, he married Marry E. Harris, who preceded him in death in 1977. Second, on April 6, 1979, he married the former Arlene D. Lambert, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Thomas Farris, Florida, and David Farris, Oregon; two stepsons, Delmis Joe Lambert, North Carolina, and Roger Dale Lambert, Dartmoor; a stepdaughter, Evelyn Sue Poling, New York; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and was preceded in death by four brothers, Elmer Farris, Roual Farris, Jasper Farris and Leroy Farris; and two sisters, Evelyn Frum and Ella Mae Farris.
Mr. Farris attended the schools of Mineral and Barbour counties. He was employed by the city of Akron as maintenance foreman for 24 years and was formerly employed as custodian at Belington Middle School. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Elkins.
Funeral Arrangements: Friends will be received at Talbott Funeral Home in Belington today from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday until 2 p.m., the funeral hour, with the Rev. Downing Gregory and the Rev. Doyle Neil Rider officiating. At the request of the deceased his remains will be cremated. Interment of the cremains will be in the Fraternal Cemetery in Belington at a later date.
