Robert O Barkley 1929-2010 Obituary
Robert O. Barkley, age 80 years, a resident of Jimtown, WV departed this life Sunday morning, January 24, 2010 at his home. Death was attributed to cancer.
He was born Sunday, August 4, 1929 at Bowden, WV a son of the late Fred Barkley and Barbara Powers. On August 7, 1994 at Elkins, WV he was married to the former JoAnn Isenhart Ramsey who survives. Also surviving are one son, Robert L. Barkley and wife Mary Ann, Elkins; two stepsons, Jerry Ramsey and wife Charlinda; and Michael Ramsey and wife Sheena, all of Belington; two daughters, Connie Dunham and husband Dennis; Julie Chenoweth and husband Jeff; all of Elkins; one step daughter, Cindy Maize and husband Kenny, Norton; three sisters, Jean Jackson, Phyllis Huston and husband L.G., Mary Hedenskog and husband Bob; all of NC; fourteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are two brothers, Don and Buddy Barkley and two sisters, Katherine Barkley and Helen Scott.
He attended the schools of Randolph County, and was a mechanic having worked for Bill’s Auto Repair for over forty years and retired in 2006 from Fisher Auto Parts. He was a member of the Tygart’s Valley Post # 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars, was a protestant, enjoyed boating and was an avid fisherman.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 8 PM, Tuesday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel, Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at 11:30 AM. The Reverend Jack Howell will officiate and interment will follow at the Elkins Memorial Gardens on the Airport Road. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to Hospice Care Corporation, P. O. Box 760, Arthurdale, WV 26520 or to the American Cancer Society, c/o Jennifer Bennett, 47 Turkey Run Road, Buckhannon, WV 26201.
