Roy “Buck” Ketterman, 82, a resident of Bowden, passed from this life Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at home surrounded by family and under the care of Mountain Hospice.

Buck was born Friday, October 7, 1938, in Onego, a son of the late Fred Alston Ketterman and Mae Hedrick Ketterman. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. On June 28, 1985, in Whitmer, he married the former Kathy Christine Vance who survives at home.

Also left to cherish his memory are four children, Debbie Stevens and husband Michael of Philippi, Kelley Ketterman-jones of Buckhannon, Holly Ketterman and companion Brian Lederhouse of Martinsburg, and Zachary Ketterman and wife Leah of Beverly, two grandchildren, Cherilyn Brenwalt and Chayse Jones, sister-in-law, Miriam Ketterman of Elkins, several nieces and nephews, Jacob Nichols whom he considered like a son, grand dog, Sadie, and his Boston Terrier buddy, Buster.

Preceding him in death besides his parents were five siblings, Hubert, Earl, Merle, and Sheldon Ketterman, and Reva Poling.

Buck attended the schools of Randolph County. He had been employed as a dozer operator at S.W. Jack Drilling Co. Buck was a diligent and hard worker from the age of eight until he retired at the age of sixty. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, repairing lawnmowers, and making apple butter. One of his favorite things to do was to make homemade peanut butter candy and give it away. Many referred to him as “the candy man”. Buck will always be remembered for his passion to socialize with others and for having the gift of gab.

Visitation will be held at Gospel Light Tabernacle Church in Elkins Friday, August 27, 2021, from Noon until 2:00 pm the funeral hour. Pastor A.H. Belt will officiate, and interment will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Whitmer.
