Ruth M. Smith, 83, a resident of Mt. View Nursing Home, Spartanburg, S.C., and a former resident of Philippi, passed away at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, in the Mt. View Nursing Home.
She was born Sept. 28, 1919, in Barbour County, the daughter of the late Leroy and Frances Donegia Golden.
She was united in marriage to Clarence “Dick” Smith, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are three sons, Richard “Richie” Smith, Baltimore, Md., Donald W. Smith, Greenville, S.C., and Joseph “Joe” Smith, Odessa, Texas; one sister, Sylvia Reed, Philippi; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd Golden and Lloyd Golden; one sister, Mary Golden; and one grandson, Rickie Smith.
Mrs. Smith was the manager of the Philippi Moose Lodge. She was a member of the Buckhannon Moose Ladies Auxiliary and attended Jerusalem United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. today. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Craig Michael officiating. Interment will follow in the Jerusalem Cemetery.
