Sharon Joyce Ayers 1935-2021 Obituary
Sharon Joyce Lundell Ayers, age 86 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life Tuesday afternoon, March 23, 2021 at Mountain Memories Assisted Living & Retirement Center at Elkins, WV, under the care of WV Caring.
She was born Friday, February 1, 1935 at Shinnston, WV, a daughter of the late Vincent and Beatrice Lundell. On August 4, 1960, she was married to Robert Ayers, who preceded her in death.
Sharon leaves behind a large family that loved her dearly. Immediate family members include sons, Chris and Bob and daughter, Tammey; one sister, Marilyn Lundell Karickhoff; seven grandchildren, Amber Ayers Vecchio, Andrew Ayers, Ashley Ayers, Ben Ayers, Brandon Ayers, Kim Perkins and Matthew Adkins; five great grandchildren, Addy Vecchio, Brandon McCotter, Delaney Vecchio, Eliana Stacey and Kaira Jane Stacey.
Also preceding her in death is an infant son, Todd Ayers.
She was a graduate of Shinnston High School and West Virginia Wesleyan College, where she majored in Chemistry. She spent the next fifty years serving others in a variety of capacities including teaching elementary school, serving as a social service worker and a day care center licensing specialist, and serving as a Director at Catholic Community Services, an agency which provides utility, food, and medication support for those in need. She retired first in 1990 and then again in 2007. Sharon was a dedicated member of St. Brendan Catholic Church in Elkins, WV.
