Sheldon Richard Whetzel 1941-2021 Obituary
Sheldon Richard Whetzel, age 80 years, a resident of the Blackman Flats Community, Hambleton, WV departed this life Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at Cortland Acres at Thomas, WV.
He was born Monday, April 7, 1941 at Brandywine, WV, Pendleton Co., a son of the late George Ezra Whetzel and Verdie Marie Eye Whetzel and also raised by Claude “Tom” Mullenax and Rosa Mullenax.
On April 9, 1960 at Red House, MD, he was married to the former Martha Ann Mason, who preceded him in death May 27, 2009.
On September 28, 2009, he married Robin Elaine Plum, who survives.
Surviving are one son Richard Edward Whetzel and husband Charles Snyder of Poincinia, FL; three daughters, Amanda Lea Williams and husband Bill of Martinsburg, Shelia Ann DeVilder and husband Mike of Blackman Flats and Barbara Ellen Auvil of Elkins; three sisters-in-law, Patsy Stone of Akron, OH, Lulabelle Hardy of Parsons, and Naomi Lambert of Mabie; three brothers-in-law, Jack Parsons of Baltimore, MD, Gregory Mason of Akron, OH and Bryan Sponaugle, Jr. and wife Dottie of Parsons; seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, one great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the last remaining member of his immediate family.
Preceding him in death are four brothers, Nathan Dallas Whetzel, Ezra Bruce Whetzel, Norman Dale Whetzel and Harry Sterling Whetzel; and two sisters, Ruby Jean Crawford Ingles and Eva Ann Parsons; and two special brothers, Richard Mullenax and Lester Mullenax.
He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1960.
He worked construction and was a member of the AFLCIO Labors Local Union #984. He enjoyed farming and dearly loved his family.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Wednesday from 4 PM to 6 PM. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at 10 AM.
The Rev. James Snyder will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, WV.
