Sidney Conrad Smith 1933-2022 Obituary
Sidney Conrad Smith, age 88 years, a resident of Pocahontas County for over 50 years and more recently an Elkins resident for 10 years departed this life Sunday evening January 23, 2022 in Elkins, WV.
He was born January 24, 1933 in Huttonsville, WV a son of the late Gladys and Joe Reda of Valley Bend WV.
He is survived by three sons, Mike Smith and wife Rose of St Louis, MO, Conrad Smith of Elkins, Patrick Smith and wife Maryellen of Elkins, one daughter, Debra Sharp and husband Ron of New Hope, VA, one sister Carol Reda Kyle of Mill Creek, WV, seven grandchildren, Sean, Benjamin, Emily, Joseph, Mary Beth, Jacob, and Abby and four great grandchildren, Rhett, Axl, Caroline, and Miya.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Joan, one brother Ray Smith, and one sister Janet Reda Williams
A graduate of Tygart Valley High School and D&E College of Engineering. He served in the US Army from 1955 to1958 and was stationed in Korea. After serving in the US Army he then worked for 41 years at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory as a Civil Engineer. He was an avid golfer. He loved his family and was a parishioner of Saint Brendans Catholic Church in Elkins.
The family will receive friends at the Saint Brendan Catholic Church of Elkins from 4 to 6 PM, Sunday. On Sunday, at 5:30 PM, at the church, a Vigil Rite will be recited. On, Monday, January 31, 2022, the Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 10 AM. The Rev. Father Jim O’Connor and Deacon Raymond Godwin will preside and interment will follow at the Saint Brendan Cemetery at Elkins, WV. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to Catholic Charities, 1513 Harrison Avenue, Suite C-10, Elkins, WV 26241.
