Francis Herbert “Herb” Starr, 73, of Aurora, passed away Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, at his home, after a long battle with cancer while under Hospice Care.
He was born Aug. 5, 1929, in Lincoln, Pa., a son of the late John Wallace and Annie Ruth Plunket Starr.
He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 51 years, Avelue Jean Harsh Starr.
He is also survived by his son, Terry Starr and wife, Melissa, of Rockhill, S.C.,; three daughters, Shirley Thomas and husband, Danny, of Aurora, Genny Casto and husband, Alan, of Dresden, Ohio, and Debbie Krites and fiance, Bob Glasscock, of Fort Wayne, Ind.; two sisters, Deloris Collins and Stella Lampe, both of Akron, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, lots of nieces and nephews and many many dear friends.
Mr. Starr served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and the Reserves for nine years. After 35 years of service, he retired as a dispatcher for Goodyear Aerospace. He was a member of the NRA, Western Reserve Knife Association, and he was affiliated with the Stemple Ridge United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at Stemple Ridge United Methodist Church in Aurora today from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Pastor Michael Ludle and retired Pastor Joe Robinette officiating. Interment will follow in the Stemple Ridge Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Preston County, Stemple Ridge Church Pavilion or the Aurora Ambulance Service. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
