Sterling E. Goff, 79, of 1899 W. Garfield Road and formerly of Warren, Ohio, died at 7:50 a.m. Friday, April 12, 2002, at St. Mary’s Alzheimer’s Center in Columbiana, Ohio.
He was born April 18, 1922, in Mabie, a son of Everret and Bertha Rowan Goff.
Mr. Goff retired in 1982 from ITT Grinnell Co., after working 30 years and had also worked in the coal mines in West Virginia and at Liberty Steel.
He was a founding member and usher at St. Pius X Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent DePaul Society and the Men’s Club.
He enjoyed polka dancing, hunting and camping.
His wife, Patricia Volitis Goff, whom he married on Aug. 25, 1941, preceded him in death on Sept. 27, 1981.
Survivors include one son, Francis “Ed” of Champion, Ohio; one daughter, Mary Ann Stocker of Oregon; three brothers, Clyde of Vienna, Ohio, Kenny of Belington, and Lewis Earl of Ellamore; one sister, Marie Temple of Elyria, Ohio; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one grandson and two brothers, Robert and James.
Friends were received at Staton-gillen-larkins Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at St. Pius X Church and at the funeral home. Interment followed at All Souls Cemetery. Material tributes can be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society or St. Mary’s Alzheimer’s Center.
