STEVEN HALL PHILLIPS, age 65 years, a native of the Crystal Springs Community, Elkins, WV and more recently a resident of the Barbour County Good Samaritan Center at Belington, WV departed this life Sunday morning, May 2, 2010 at the center, following an extended illness.
He was born Monday, December 18, 1944 at Elkins, WV a son of the late Perry Hall Phillips and Dessie Gladys Bright Phillips. Surviving are one son, Steven Hall Phillips, Jr., one brother, Alan Dale Phillips, Beverly; four sisters, Loretta Jean Hinkle and husband Fred, Beverly; Mary Jo Hinkle, Louisburg, NC; Virginia Ann “Ginny” Skidmore and husband Ronal; and Nancy Ellen Mullins, all of Elkins.
Preceding him in death are three brothers, Robert John, James Clayton and Donald Perry Phillips.
He attended Elkins High School, and was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving two tours during the Vietnam Conflict as a paratrooper and in the special forces, where he was wounded and received the purple heart.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 8 PM, Tuesday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel, Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at 11 AM. The Rev. Kevin Gainer will officiate and interment will follow at the American Legion’s Little Arlington Cemetery at Cravensdale, WV where the H. W. Daniel’s Post # 29, American Legion and the Tygart’s Valley Post # 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct full military rites.
