SYLVANUS REED, JR., age 67 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life Thursday, November 7, 2013 at Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown, WV. He had been in declining health.
He was born Friday, June 21, 1946 at Philippi, WV, a son of the late Sylvanus and Catherine Gillis Snyder Reed. On January 1, 1970 at Parsons, WV, he was married to the former Donna Kay Kerns, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are one daughter, Donna June Reed of Montrose, WV; four brothers, Kenny Reed of Grafton, Chuck Reed of Belington, Danny Reed of Flemington and George William Snyder of Philippi; one sister Mary King, and Violet Snyder of Ohio; and one granddaughter, Lydia Marie Reed of Montrose, WV; and his caregiver, Tish Hinchman of Elkins, WV.
Preceding him in death are one daughter, Cindy Lou Reed; two brothers, Woodrow and Johnny Reed and one sister, Helen Cutlip.
He attended the schools of Barbour County. He was an employee of the former Dorman Mills, the Mt. Storm Power Plant and retired from Kingsford Charcoal Company during 1994. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed working on vehicles.
Mr. Reed’s request for cremation was honored. A private graveside service will take place at a later date.
