Thomas E. Walden 1927-2002 Obituary

Thomas E. Walden, 74, of Avon Lake, Ohio, formerly of Brook Park, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2002, at his home following complications from cancer.

Mr. Walden was born Nov. 15, 1927, in Elkins, and had lived in Brook Park for 38 years prior to moving to Avon Lake three years ago.

Mr. Walden was controller and vice president for Murch and Co. Brokerage Firm in Cleveland for 17 years, then became the business manager for 13 years with the Hattie Larlham Foundation in Mantua, Ohio, which operates a home for children who need special care.

Mr. Walden was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and served in the Pacific during Okinawa. He also was a Korean War U.S. Army veteran.

He received his bachelor of science degree from Davis & Elkins College and his master’s degree from Dyke-spenciarn Business College in Cleveland.

He was a member of American Legion Post 610 of Brook Park. He enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing as well as tending to his flower and vegetable gardens.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dorothy Wooddell Walden; sons Thomas Walden and wife, Gayle, of Elkins and Robert A. Walden and wife, Tonie, of Olmsted Township; one daughter, Diane S. Brunner and husband, David, of Avon Lake; seven grandchildren, Thomas A. Walden and wife, Jennifer, Jacob L. Walden and wife, Rachel, Meghan J. Walden, Abby L. Walden, Shawn D. Brunner, Jason A. Brunner and Kevin M. Brunner; three great-grandchildren, Thomas L. Walden, Collin Walden and Marlee Walden; and one brother, Richard Walden and wife, Betty, of Elkins; one sister, Patty Rosencrance and husband, Junior, of Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Thelma Purkey Walden, and one brother, Ronald Walden.

Friends may call at the Busch-burmeister Family Chapel, 163 Avon-belden Road, Avon Lake, Ohio, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Bill Shomo, chaplain of the Hospice of the Western Reserve, will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
