Thomas “Tom” Spencer Shaffer, 69, a resident of East Dailey, passed from this life Monday, March 8, 2021, at home surrounded by family and under the care of Mountain Hospice.
Tom was born Saturday, December 22, 1951, in Mill Creek, a son of the late Glenn Norman Shaffer and Donna Gaile Mathes Shaffer. On October 27, 1977, in Elkins, he married the former Frances Margaret Bolyard who survives at home.
Also left to cherish his memory are two sons, Jeffrey Scott Shaffer and fiancé Stephanie Biggs of Elkins, and Brian Thomas of East Dailey, two grandchildren, Aiden Jeffrey Shaffer, and Avery Faith Shaffer, three siblings, Michael Shaffer and wife Susan of FL, Candice Salem-smallwood of CA, and Jennifer Hicks of TN.
Preceding him in death besides his parents was one sister, Faye Davis, and his paternal grandmother that raised him, Mae VanReenan.
Tom was a graduate of Elkins High School and had been employed as a lumber inspector for Coastal Lumber. He had also been employed as an EMT for Randolph County EMS. Tom loved playing bluegrass music on his Martin guitars, fishing, sport shooting, vegetable gardening, and attending dirt track races. He also enjoyed repairing and painting cars. In fact, he may have painted most of the cars in his neighborhood. Tom was a member of the Valley Bend Presbyterian Church.
Tom’s request for cremation was honored. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home Thursday, March 11, 2021, from 11 am until 1 pm, the funeral hour.
