Vera Louise Pennington Knotts Obituary 1928-2012
Vera Louise Pennington Knotts, 86, a resident of the Sugarlands, Tucker County, departed this life at her daughter’s home in Morgantown on Friday afternoon, Dec. 25, 2020, surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Amedisys Hospice.
She was born Monday, Aug. 20, 1934, in Thomas, a daughter of the late Nathaniel Remer and Melvina Helmick Pennington.
On Jan. 17, 1951, in Oakland, Md., she was married to Ronald Earl Knotts, who preceded her in death, on Dec. 8, 2000.
She is survived by daughters, Brenda Sue Jones and husband, Fred, of Sugarlands, Sharon Louise Smith and husband, John, of Holly Meadows, and Lori Ann Lipscomb and husband, Tom, of Morgantown; one brother, Roy Pennington and wife, Jill of Buckhannon; one sister-in-law, Mary Pennington of Killeen, Texas; six grandchildren, Dale (Jen) Jones of Parsons, Jeremy (Betsy) Smith of Destin, Fla., Matthew Smith of West Union, Laura (Lauren) Smith of Cheswick, Pa., Calla (Joseph) Bohlman of Morgantown and Nathaniel Lipscomb of Morgantown; great-grandchildren, Kenya Jones, Bailey Bennett, Warren, Matthew and Elizabeth Smith, Audrey, Tia, and Vivian Smith, Cassidy and Morgan Smith and Gavin and Jude Bohlman; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by five brothers; Earl, Darley, Carl, Charles and James Pennington; and three sisters, Jeannette Dumire, Vivian Robinson and Osa Pennington.
She received her GED after attending Parsons High School with the class of 1952. She was a member of the Sugarlands Church of the Brethren, where she was secretary/treasurer and song leader. She was a former employee of Blackwater Falls State Park.
She loved to read the newspaper and attend live music events and was an avid Mountaineers fan. Her greatest joy was being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and could always be found attending their various games, concerts and other activities.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on today from 4 to 6 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2020, at 11 am.. The Rev. Deborah Strawser will officiate and interment will follow at the Sugarlands Church of the Brethren Cemetery at Sugarlands.
As we continue to follow the CDC guidelines, masks and social distancing will be required.
