Vincent Thomas Vinnie Zummo 1973-2021 Obituary
Vincent Thomas “Vinnie” Zummo, 47, a resident of Bridgeport, passed away Jan. 1, 2021.
He was born in Gassaway, a son of Connie Young Zummo Pingley and the late Sheriff Vincent T. Zummo.
He is survived by his two sons, Vincent Gabriel “Gabe” Zummo and Dominic James “Dom” Zummo; mother, Connie Young Zummo Pingley; brother, Drew Pingley; stepbrother, Timothy William “Tim” Pingley; stepsister, Kathleen “Kathi” Gaddy; grandmother, Eula Young; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Vinnie graduated from Braxton County High School. He was a member of the football and basketball teams and served as captain of both sports. He attended Marshall University for three years and graduated from Christopher Newport University in Hampton, Virginia, with a Bachelor’s in criminal justice/criminology.
He was a Supervisory U.S. Probation Officer assigned to the Clarksburg office with 19 years of service.
He had served as adjunct training officer at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Charlotte, South Carolina, developed and implemented several training seminars in the Northern District of West Virginia, and received the 2008 Mark A. Sneberger Mid-atlantic Officer of Year Award.
“Officer Zummo dedicated his entire career to assisting the court in the fair administration of justice.
He worked tirelessly as a mentor and friend to his fellow probation officers and will be greatly missed,” said Jon Wright, chief probation northern West Virginia.
Preceding him in death is wife, Kelly Zummo; father, Vincent T. Zummo; stepfather, David H. Pingley; and grandparents, Vincent and Zelia Zummo, Ernest Young and Bud and Katie Pingley.
Vinnie’s request for cremation will be honored.
The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of arrangements for Vincent Thomas “Vinnie” Zummo.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
