Virginia Alice Beattie, 88, a resident of 111 Maple Ave. in Philippi, and a resident of Route 3 in Philippi, departed this life at 9:22 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, at the home of her daughter, Barbara Brown, with whom she made her home for the past four years. She had been in failing health for quite sometime.
She was born Sept. 4, 1913, in Barbour County, a daughter of the late James Elmer and Ida Mae Boylen Boyles.
She was formerly married to Robert Beattie Jr., who preceded her in death in February 1967.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara and husband, Eddie Brown, Philippi, and Sara M. Coontz, Belington; six grandchildren, Lonny Brown and wife, Lisa, Ronny Brown, Mendy Moats and husband, Stephan, Tim Coontz and wife, Cindy, Todd Coontz and wife, Dana, and Jody Coontz; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Earnest Boyles; and one son-in-law, William “Bill” Coontz.
Mrs. Beattie was a graduate of the Philippi High School. She was a former employee of Broaddus Hospital and a former receptionist at the Philippi Inn Motel in Philippi.
She was a member of the Mary’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Philippi and was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Philippi.
Graveside services will be conducted from Mary’s Chapel Church Cemetery in Philippi Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. Interment will follow. The Talbott Funeral Home in Belington is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that expressions of sympathy be made in the form of a contribution to Mountain Hospice, Crim Avenue, Belington, W.Va. 26250.
