Waite J. Higgins, 87, a former resident of Mill Creek and a resident of the Holbrook Nursing Home in Buckhannon since February 2000, passed away Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, in the nursing home. He had been in failing heath for the past three years.
Born April 13, 1914, in Randolph County, he was the son of the late Dyer and Susan Ann Martin Higgins.
He was married to the former Bessie Brown Higgins, who preceded him in death on March 1, 1998. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Shrader and Cora Taylor; and four brothers, Virgil, Clifford, Thad and Willie Higgins.
Mr. Higgins is survived by one sister, Vernie Slayton, of Myersdale, Pa., and several nieces and nephews including Mrs. Jim (Bertha) Tomey of Buckhannon and Arlie Higgins of Akron, Ohio.
He was a woodsman and a member of the Mill Creek Memorial Mission Church.
Friends were received at the F.E. Runner Funeral Home Chapel after 7 p.m. Monday. Today he was moved to the Mill Creek Memorial Mission Church for visitation from 11 a.m. until noon, the funeral hour. The Rev. Frank Long, pastor of the church, officiated and interment followed in the Jerusalem Cemetery on the Adolph Road.
