THE REVEREND WALTER HAROLD BLOUGH, age 80 years, a resident of Delaware Avenue, Elkins, WV departed this life early Wednesday morning, December 9, 2009 at Monongalia General Hospital at Morgantown. He had been in declining health.
He was born Thursday, September 5, 1929 at Boswell, PA a son of the late Jacob Blough and Katherine Spory Blough. On September 23, 1967 he was married to the former Olive L. Sines who survives. Also surviving are one son, Chuck Blough, Point of Rocks, MD; one daughter, Anita Taulton and husband Rob, Jefferson, MD; one sister, Mary Naugle, Davidsville, PA and four grandchildren, Hannah and Samuel Taulton and Zachary and Amber MacIntosh.
Preceding him in death are two brothers, Glenn and Orval Blough; one sister, Sarah Yoder; two half brothers, Lester and Alfred Blough and one half sister, Hilda Sala.
He was a graduate of Boswell High School at Boswell, PA; McPherson College at Kansas and the Seminary at Bethany College at Chicago, IL. He was a minister and had served the Elkins Church of the Brethren for nineteen years, and also served pastorates at Danville, LaVale, and Burkittsville, MD. After his retirement he continued to do the Lord’s work until he met his maker having volunteered at the Davis Memorial Hospital at least one day a week for the last eight years. He was a regular visitor to nursing homes and personal care homes in the Elkins region. He did many homebound visits, helping with groceries, doctors, medicines and other personal needs. He was very active after retirement with pastoral duties and ministries in the area and had been recognized as Elkins volunteer of the year for multiple years. He was well known for his quick wit and his sense of humor.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM, Friday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel, Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 11 AM. The Reverend Doctor Basil A. Hensley will officiate and interment will follow at the Mount Vernon Cemetery at Beverly, West Virginia.
