Wanda Elaine Ware Marstiller, age 87, a resident of Laurel Mountain Road, passed from this life on Sunday September 30th in the Hospice Care Regional Inpatient Unit in Elkins. She had been in declining health and a resident of Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center for the past year.
Wanda was born September 14, 1925, at Camden on Gauley, WV, a daughter of the late Clifford M and Minnie Thelma Snider Ware. On October 31, 1953, at Oakland MD, she was married to Howard D Marstiller who survives. Also surviving are two sons Clifford and wife Sherri and H Nicholas and wife Savannah both of Elkins; two daughters Jeanette Kerr of Elkins and Sandra Chittenden and husband Thom of Boyds MD; two grandsons John Kerr and wife Shannon of Davis and Garrett Marstiller of Elkins; three granddaughters Jessica, Holly, and Rebekah Chittenden of Boyds MD; one foster granddaughter Krystal Powers of North Carolina; one great grandson, Kevin Kerr, of Davis; four brothers Donald (Viola) Ware of Ray, ND, James (Diane) Ware of Pine City, MN, Shelly Ware of Casper WY, and Claude (Doris) Ware of Douglas WY; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; one nephew Kenny Myall, whom she helped raise; and one brother-in-law Paul Shaffer. Besides her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by two sisters Virginia Herzog and Shirley Shaffer; one grandson Dillon Marstiller; two brothers-in-law Elmer Herzog and Rolland Marstiller; and two sisters-in-law Mary Ware and Audrey Marstiller Davis. Wanda attended the schools of Webster County and received her GED from Randolph County Schools in 1997. She worked at Streamline Market and the A&P Store. She and her husband owned and operated the Snack Shoppe in Elkins for 18 years. She later worked at the snack bar at Memorial General Hospital, the Linen Closet, and was in the Foster Grandparent program at the WV Childrens Home School for many years. Wanda was known for her generosity and good cooking. She enjoyed listening to music, watching classic movies, shopping, and celebrating the holidays. She loved working with the children at the Childrens Home. She was a member of several bowling leagues, Woodmen of the World, and the Cancer Care Corp. She attended Orlena United Methodist Church in Gilman. Friends will be received at the Tomblyn Funeral Home from 5:00 pm until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday October 3rd. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday October 4th at the funeral home chapel. Pastor David Fisher and Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley will officiate. Interment will follow at the American Legion’s Little Arlington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Wanda’s name to the WV Childrens Home or Orlena United Methodist Church.
