Wayne Allen Woods, 57, a councilman for the town of Hendricks and a resident of the Rosendorf community, Hendricks, departed this life early Thursday morning, Dec. 12, 2002. He had been in his usual health and death was attributed to a massive heart attack.
He was born on Jan. 26, 1945, at Hendricks, a son of the late Luther Bascum Woods and Violet B. McDaniel Woods.
On Sept. 30, 1967, in Parsons, he was married to the former Sharon Lea Vanscoy, who survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Tammy D. Moore and husband, Scott, of Parsons, Crystal M. Stone and husband, Paris, of Midlothian, Va., and Kayla N. Woods, a student at Alderson-broaddus College at Philippi; two brothers, Coye L. Woods and wife, Kay, of Baton Rouge, La., and L.B. Woods of Hendricks; one sister, Janet Carr and husband, Keith, of Elkins; and four grandchildren, Autumn Dawn Moore, Emma Grace Moore, both of Parsons, Michah Paige Stone and Conner Jennings Stone, both of Virginia.
He was preceded in death by one brother, John Woods.
He attended the Hamrick School and Parsons High School. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, serving as a sharpshooter. He was a former employee of the Hinchcliff Lumber Co. and the Parsons Tannery. He was a coalminer at North Branch and Robinson Run. He was also employed by R.H. Armstrong Co., West Virginia Paving and at the time of his death, was a substitute custodian at Tucker County High School. He served on the park board at Hendricks. He attended the Riverview Chapel Church at Porterwood. He was an avid deer hunter and woodworker.
Friends will be received at Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home Sunday from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor at 1 p.m. Monday. Pastor Dick Gadd will officiate and interment will follow at Parsons City Cemetery. The Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Wayne Allen Woods.
