Wilbur K. Chavis 1937-2003 Obituary
Wilbur K. Chavis, 66, of Route 9, Buckhannon, died Sunday, May 18, 2003, at 11:45 a.m. at his home in Buckhannon.
He was born April 5, 1937, in Swansea, S.C., a son of the late Tommy Lee and Leila Chavis.
Surviving are three daughters, Cathy and Jim Wright, South Park, Pa., Carolyn “Bunny Metz, Elizabeth, Pa., and Rebecca “Becky and Gary Stetar, Elizabeth, Pa.; one brother, Harvey Chavis, Swansea, S.C.; two sisters, Leitha Sturkie and Mary Ruth Jeffcoat, both of Swansea, S.C.; his first wife, Ruth Sturms Chavis-Griffin, Elizabeth, Pa.; his best friend, Sheril Chavis, Buckhannon; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack Chavis, Tommy Lee Chavis and Alvin Chavis; and two sisters, Mildred and Ruby Stevenson.
He was a brick mason and attended Sago Baptist Church.
Friends will be received at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home today from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at Sago Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Elbon Cemetery at Sago.
