Wilda Fern Hornbeck Currence, 77, a resident of Mill Creek, passed from this life early Saturday morning, January 29, 2011 at the United Hospital Center at Clarksburg. She was born Friday, July 28, 1933 at Queens, Upshur County, a daughter of the late Clyde Harold Hornbeck and Ada Marie Hammonds Hornbeck. On July 3, 1952 at Oakland, MD, she was married to George “Andy” Currence who survives. Also surviving is one daughter, Teresa New and husband, Joseph of Mill Creek, three grandchildren, Crystal Dawn Cutright and husband, Denny L. Cutright, Jr., Jessica Dawn Taylor and fiancé, David Armstrong, and Dustin Lee Taylor, four great grandchildren, Lane Hunter Cutright, Halee Leann Cutright, Connor Blake Armstrong, and Brayden Andrew Armstrong, a special daughter in law, Pamela Taylor, and many special nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were two brothers, Bernard “Sparky” Hodges and Themer Hodges, three sisters, Wanda Stamper, Kathleen Corley, and Betty Smallridge, and a special foster son, Danny Lee Taylor. A lifelong resident of Mill Creek, Wilda graduated from Tygart Valley High School with the class of 1951. She had worked for WVABC Commission from which she retired and also at Beta Shoe Company. Along with her husband, she owned and operated Mill Creek’s WVABC and General Store. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, quilting, cooking, sewing, crocheting, gardening, Bingo, digging ramps, and taking care of her grandbabies and especially her great grandbabies. Visitation will be at the Randolph Funeral Home and Cremation Services on Tuesday from 6 until 8 PM. Funeral services will be held from the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at 2 PM. Pastor Bobbie Rogers will officiate and interment will follow at the Brick Church Cemetery at Huttonsville.
