William Hayes Pomp 1924-2002 Obituary
William Hayes Pomp, 78, of 715 Crim Ave., Belington, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at his home, following an extended illness.
He was born Aug. 5, 1924, at Cassity, Randolph County, a son of the late William Mortley and Nettie (Smith) Pomp.
On March 1, 1945, he married the former Madelene Hope Himes, who preceded him in death on Feb. 23, 1983.
Surviving are three sons, Steve H. Pomp and wife, Ann Marie, Wall, N.J., William Michael Pomp and wife, Beuna, Belington, and Steven Anthony Pomp, who is a son of Steven H. Pomp, but was adopted and raised by Mr. and Mrs. Pomp, at home; four daughters, Judy L. Jackson Gunn and husband, John Morganton, N.C. Rosemary E. Ware and husband, Robert, Belington, Robin K. Pomp and Vickie D. Pomp, both at home; six grandchildren, William Christopher Pomp, Connie Hope Brown, Michael David Pomp, Amanda Dawn Ware, William Allen Ware and Alicia Marie Pomp; great-grandchildren, Travis Michael Pomp, Brook Nicole Pomp and Madelyn Hope Pomp; one brother, Berton Pomp, Baltimore, Md.; and one sister, Wilda Arbogast, Elkins.
He was also preceded in death by one sister, Lillian Bennett; and one brother, Cecil Pomp.
Mr. Pomp was a former coal miner and former truck driver for the Ray Ware Lumber Co. He was a veteran member of the Belington VFD and the Belington EMS. He was a former Boy Scout leader and was a member of the West Side United Methodist Church.
Friends may call at Schoonover-stemple Funeral Chapel in Belington from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Friday, when funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. F.L. “Wink” McQuain officiating. Interment will follow in Belington- Fraternal Cemetery. Schoonover Stemple Funeral Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
