William Lonzo Pingley 1935-2022 Obituary
William Lonzo Pingley, age 86 years, a resident of Norton, passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at Mountain Memories Assisted Living & Retirement Center in Elkins. He was born September 11, 1935 at Norton, WV, a son of the late Robert F. and Kathryn A. Boserman Pingley. On June 28, 1958 at Elkins, he was married to the former Lovada Irene Harlan who preceded him in death February 20, 2020. Surviving are three children, Vicki Lynn Canfield and husband Harold of Norton, William Eugene Pingley and wife Shirley of Struthers, OH, Lori Ann Welch and husband Brian of Mabie and two sisters, Nancy Louise Bolyard of Arthurdale, WV and Elizabeth “Dot” Bertelli of Norton. Four grandchildren, Tara and Mike Rohrbaugh, Molly and Ricky Martin, Megan Pingley and fiance’ James Varga and Ryan Canfield and girlfriend Taylor Maynard; five great grandchildren, Katelyn, Madison and Joshua Rohrbaugh, Annalee and Toriella Martin and Noah Gonzalez; five sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law and several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Eugene F. Pingley. Mr. Pingley was a Veteran of the United States Air Force for thirteen years and served during the Vietnam War. He was employed as a heavy equipment mechanic prior to his retirement. He loved to deer hunt, camp and just spending time outdoors.
Friends may call from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Sunday, January 30, 2022 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, January 31st from the funeral home chapel with Pastor John Welch officiating. Interment will follow at the Phillips Cemetery at Jimtown where full Military Honors will be accorded at the graveside by members of the United States Air Force, HW Daniels Post 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Masks and social distancing are recommended for anyone attending the service. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to WV Caring, PO Box 760, Arthurdale, WV 26520 in memory of Mr. Pingley. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for William Lonzo Pingley.
