William M. Harris 1937-2022 Obituary
William M. “Bill” Harris, age 84 years, a resident of Beverly, passed away Tuesday evening, February 15, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family and under the care of WV Caring Hospice. He was born February 18, 1937 at Nestorville, WV, a son of the late Martin H. and Edythe Hershman Harris. On February 28, 1958 at Petersburg, WV, he was married to Alma Jean VanMeter who survives. Also surviving are three sons, William Martin Harris, Jr., of Beverly, Lewis Allen Harris and wife Jayne of Beverly, Timothy Mark Harris and wife Leesa of Montrose; one daughter, Carol Jean Martin and husband David of High Point, NC and one sister, Martha Alice Poling of St. Marys, WV. Eight grandchildren, Jonathan W. Harris, Shelley J. Testa and husband Vincent, Holly M. Bonnell and husband Ryne, Tiffany J. Robinson, Natasha J. Zirkle and fiancé Clark, David Jacobs and wife Ariel, William “Mark” Harris and Katelyn “Katie” Shiflett and husband Kevin; fifteen great grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren also survive. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one brother, Franklin Harris and three sisters, Emma Jean Nestor, Joan Shaw and Charlene Connely. Bill was retired from the Western Maryland Railroad and Chessie System Railroad. He restored an antique vehicle for each grandchild and took great pride with his gardening. He enjoyed keeping his pond filled with fish for his family to fish off of the gazebo he built. He also enjoyed McDonald’s breakfasts with his retired railroad buddies. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elkins.
Private funeral services were held. Entombment followed in the Mountain State Memorial Mausoleum at Gilman. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to WV Caring Hospice, P. O. Box 760, Arthurdale, WV 26520 in memory of Mr. Harris. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for William M. “Bill” Harris.
