WYATT HARPER JUDY, age 86 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life late Saturday evening, August 13, 2011 at his home.
He was born Monday, June 1, 1925 at Whitmer, WV a son of the late Curtis James and Sally Bland Judy. On January 8, 1946 at Elkins, WV he was married to the former Bessie M. “Bobbi” Cline, who preceded him in death March 31, 2011. Surviving are one son, Wayne Harper Judy and wife Gladys, VA; two daughters, Janice Carol Davis and husband Gary; and Patty Jane Coen and husband Bob, all of Parkersburg; two brothers, Robert Earl Judy and wife Kathy, Warren, OH; Loman Ray “Bunt” Judy and wife Louise, Elkins; six grandchildren, Wayne, Kristopher, Erin, Matthew, Justin and Courtney; four great grandchildren, Brenan, Wayne Jr., Liam and Danielle and his beloved cat “Lucky”.
Preceding him in death are two brothers, William “Bill”; and Warren “Wade” Judy; one sister, Betty Ramsey and his beloved dog “Ginger”.
Wyatt attended the Wymer one-room school, was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, serving during World War II, had worked for the Mullen’s Manufacturing Company in Ohio, as a truck driver for F. L. Davis and retired in July 1987 from the W.V. Children’s Home at Elkins. He was a member of the H. W. Daniel’s Post # 29 American Legion; a life member of the Tygart’s Valley Post # 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church. He enjoyed watching the game show network, especially Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, collecting aluminum cans and being outdoors mowing and weed-eating his property. He enjoyed spending time with the Rev. Jim Murphy, spending time with family, hanging out with his VFW friends and enjoyed helping others when needed. He was a long time volunteer at the Children’s Home and was a Newspaper carrier for the Inter-mountain for many years. He was a wonderful friend to everyone he met and never knew a stranger.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 8 PM, Thursday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel, Friday, August 19, 2011 at 11 AM. The Rev. Jim Murphy will officiate and interment will follow at the American Legion’s Little Arlington Cemetery at Cravensdale, WV, where the H. W. Daniel’s Post # 29 American Legion and the Tygart’s Valley Post # 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct full military rites.The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Otterbein United Methodist Church at Elkins, WV.
