YACK HOON CHUNG, M.D. a resident of Elkins, WV, departed this life early Sunday morning June 13, 2010 at his home.
On June 26, 1954, he was married to his loving wife, Soon OK Chung, M.D. who survives. They had celebrated fifty-six years of marriage. Also surviving are three children, Henry, Susy and Mary, three grandchildren, Jennifer, Benjamin and Eugene. He will be greatly missed dearly by his family and friends.
Dr. Chung grew up in Seoul, Korea. He holds a medical degree and PhD from the prestigious Seoul National University. Dr. Chung did his anesthesiology residency at Albert Einstein Hospital at New York. Before coming to the United States, Dr. Chung served as chief of surgery in East Africa for four years along with his wife Dr. Soon Ok Chung who was in charge of the OB-gYN Department. Not only were they partners in life but also partners in their medical profession. Dr. Chung was Chief of Anesthesiology at Memorial General Hospital and later served at Davis Memorial Hospital.
There will be a private family viewing on Thursday. On Friday, Dr. Chung will be moved to the Gate of Heaven Cemetery at Washington D. C. where graveside services will be conducted at 1 PM.
